Chimney Crown Rebuild
Most DFW chimneys were finished with a mortar wash — a thin skim of mortar troweled over the top of the brick. It is not concrete, it carries no reinforcement, and it cracks. A rebuild replaces it with a poured, steel-reinforced crown cast to overhang the brick face by an inch or two, with a drip edge cut into the underside so runoff leaves the stack instead of tracking down the masonry. We form it, pour it, and detail an expansion joint around each flue tile so the crown is not bonded to something that expands at a different rate. Cost tracks the footprint of the chimney, the number of flues, and how much brick has to be re-set before there is sound ground to pour on.
